On Saturday, the NC State Wolfpack played Atlantic Division rival Boston College in Carter-Finley Stadium. Despite an uncharacteristic number of mistakes, the Pack went up 28-3 in the 3rd quarter. That’s all we shall speak of.
Setting the Tone Early
The Wolfpack defense had one heck of a day. For a majority of the game, Boston College simply could not move the ball on the Pack. The tone was set early on the opening drive of the game with this sack by Big E and Murch.
Who’s Got Talent
I think we’ve all figured out by now that NC State has a talented group of WRs. This week Harmon and Meyers were the big two on display. They both make multiple highlight reel catches and make multiple appearances in the rest of this post. Here’s just a sample of their day.
Kelvin Harmon let his defender know early in the game that he was in for a long day.
According to Pro Football Focus, Jakobi Meyers had 10 catches on 10 targets for 99 yards. How do you defend him when he’ll just jump over you for the catch?
3rd and Easy
I don’t have the stat in front of me (someone can drop it in the comments) but NC State has been absurd at converting 3rd and long situations this season. Here is the team converting on 3rd and 16. Quick note on Ryan Finley: I’ve noticed he has been really accurate this season when rolling out of the pocket. We’ve already seen it in the Harmon GIF above. Here is a strike while rolling to his right and throwing almost 30 yards downfield.
All Aboard The Bus
In case you hadn’t heard, Reggie Gallaspy took on the nickname “The Bus” this summer. While we haven’t seen too many big runs this season, he does have have at least one TD in every game so far this season. He scored two of his seven total TDs this season on BC. He also had his longest run of the season - which took a face mask and horse collar tackle to stop.
Meet You at the Quarterback
I love it when two defensive ends try to race each other to the QB to see who can get the sack first. In this case for Deonte Holden and James Smith-Williams it was a tie.
Finishing the Half Strong
The Wolfpack offense got the ball with 2:27 left in the 1st half on their own 14 yard line. They marched 86 yards in 1:44 to score a TD which resulted in taking a 21-3 lead into halftime. Here are a few plays from that drive. It’s almost unfair.
Now You’re Just Showing Off
Finley-to-Harmon struck again for a TD in the 3rd quarter.
How ya feelin’ after that TD, Wolfpack Nation? (by request from PackMentality)
I’ll Take That, Thanks
Germaine Pratt is a strong man. Late in the game he prevented a BC TD by just taking it from their running back. The refs made an indisputably impeccable call by seeing the sheer determination in the eyes of the BC RB to continue moving the pile forward and decided allow that man to push on.
Hit of the Week
Germaine Pratt was the most disruptive player on a disruptive defense. He gets the Week 6 Hit of the Week for this sack in the 4th quarter.
In the end, NC State was able to secure a 28-23 victory over Boston College. Hey Alim McNeill - where does that put the Wolfpack?
An undefeated 5-0, huh? I hear there were a lot of former Wolfpack players in the crowd. Let’s see how Nyheim Hines feels about the win.
