First, I would like to thank Wonder Woman for taking time out from her busy schedule of saving the world to help name a 2017-18 All-ACC Women’s Basketball team.

Second, no-one from Miami is going to be named to this team. Yes, there might be other teams from which no one is named, but that is not a given from the get-go.

Wonder Woman: O.k. Mr. Smarty pants "I am not going to name a player from Miami to the team just because" who from your beloved N. C. State is on our team?

Sbas: First is Chelsea Nelson. She led State, a team which finished 11-5 in conference, in both scoring and rebounding with an average per game of 13.1 and 9.3 respectively, and scored 30 points on 10-13 from the floor against Pitt.

Also named to the team is Akela Maize because she in State’s most significant win of the season, a win against FSU, came back from what looked like a season ending ankle injury in the third quarter and a visit to the locker room to finish the game. Akela went 3-3 from the floor and 4-4 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter after returning from her injury. Further, Akela never missed a game due to this injury. Not only will we name her to our All-ACC team, we will give Akela our Wonder Woman Award for that very reason.

Wonder Woman: I know you dislike UNC, but despite that, do you have a player from UNC that you will add to our All-ACC team?

Sbas: I do. I will first add Paris Kea. Paris Kea is fourth in the conference in scoring averaging 18.8 points per game-end of the regular season as are all stats. In this season’s UNC game at Raleigh she scored 21 points despite the fact that State’s best defender, Kiara Leslie, guarded her for much of the game. I will also add Stephanie Watts.

Wonder Woman: You are going to add Stephanie Watts although she did not play a single game this season????

Sbas: Yes I am. Stephanie Watts not playing in the last three State/UNC games enabled State to beat UNC like a drum. Like a drum I tell ya! Thinking of a UNC three guard line-up with Jamie Cherry, Stephanie Watts and Paris Kea gives me nightmares.

Wonder Woman: I know you do not like Duke either; however, is there a Duke player you would like to add to our team?

Sbas: I will add Lexie Brown to the team. With regard to the conference, she is tied for first in scoring with 20.3 points per game. She almost single handedly defeated both our State and FSU. However, the most significant reason I am adding Brown to our All-ACC team is that she had the common sense to transfer from Maryland-especially after Maryland for money reasons left the ACC for the Big Ten. I might note that Kiara Leslie gets honorable mention for this very same reason.

Wonder Woman: Who else are we adding to the team?

Sbas: We are going to add Elisa Penna of Wake Forest, Asia Durr of Louisville, Myisha Hines-Allen of Louisville, Tiana Maugakahia of Syracuse, Arike Ogunbowale of Notre Dame, Imani Wright from FSU, and Kalista Walters of Pitt.

Wonder Woman: (sarcastically) I am sure you are going to give us your reasons for adding each of these players to our team.

Sbas: Why yes, yes I am. Elisa Penna of Wake leads Wake in scoring, is 9th in scoring conference wise, and most importantly put 34 on State in the Hoops for Hope game-20 in the first half.

Asia Durr is third in scoring in the ACC at 19.4 points per game and again using that "most importantly adage", she is the darling of the ACC refs. If she is that, how can I not add her?

Wonder Woman: You are being petty!

Sbas: So? Let me continue. Myisha Hines-Allen is added to the team because she leads Louisville and the conference in rebounding with 9.8 rebounds per game, and Myisha, for Louisville, is second in scoring behind Durr. Also, and predominantly for this reason, she blocked Aislinn Konig’s soft jumper just below the free throw line, a jumper which if made would have pulled State to within 2 points late in the game after trailing something like 25-1 in the second quarter, and, after which, she raced down court for an uncontested lay-up for the win.

Tiana Maugakahia leads Syracuse in scoring at 17.8 points per game, and is 5th in scoring in the ACC. That written, the main reason we are adding her to our All-ACC team is that she wore shades during the game at State. Hey, anyone who can wear shades during a game and look cool doing it is "the boss". Besides, she is from Australia.

Arike Ogunbowale of Notre Dame is tied with Brown for the conference lead in scoring with 20.3 ppg. And yes, we saw her "might" when State played them Sunday. Imani Wright from FSU is added to the team just because I feel like we should add someone from FSU to the team. I could have considered Shakayla Thomas; however, every time I saw her play, she played poorly.

That brings us to Kalista Walters of Pitt. Why her? I think any six-one player who scored without stress around Akela Maize and Chelsea Nelson deserves to be on the team. Kalista Walters went 6 for 7 from the floor against our State team in 21 minutes of action. And.

Wonder Woman: And?

Sbas: And, after a finish at the basket near the end of the game with an "and one" by Kaila Ealey, Kaila received a technical foul for getting into Kalista’s face. Take that Kalista.

Wonder Woman: Are you done, please?

Sbas: No, I am adding Alex Sharp.

Wonder Woman: What! I know she starts for Wake, but?

Sbas: Alex due to her disposition on the court (never smiles) and her ability to hit arc shots one after the other during warm-up is my favorite player not wearing an N. C. State uniform. Besides, she also, is from Australia.

Wonder Woman: Whatever!

I would again like to thank BFF Wonder Woman for helping me name our All-ACC women’s basketball team. Go save the world, lady!
