NC State receiver Maurice Trowell making the transition to cornerback

Maurice Trowell is the latest wide receiver moving to defensive back for NC State, following in the footsteps of Johnathan Alston. Dave Doeren spoke about that move and more with media members on Wednesday afternoon.

Trowell showed some promise as a receiver early in his Wolfpack career but didn’t develop into a primary weapon for the offense, and given the amount of depth that NC State currently has at that position, flipping to the defensive side was his best opportunity to see playing time.

It’s hard to imagine he’ll end up in a starting role with so little time to get adjusted, but there’s no doubt that NC State still needs whatever depth it can find in at the corner spots.

Trowell didn’t make a ton of catches as a receiver, but he did manage to make each of his three career touchdowns a big, explosive play—like this 83-yarder against Boston College in 2015. Now it’s his job to prevent those sorts of shenanigans.
