ESPN strikes distribution deal with DirecTV for ACC Network

Good news!

With a little over five months before the official launch of the ACC Network, DirecTV has agreed to a deal to carry it, according to John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal. DirecTV is the first major television provider to agree to carry the network, and is hopefully a sign that deals with major cable distributors are on the way.

The network is also set to debut on Hulu TV, among other streaming television providers.

The DirecTV agreement is an important step toward viability for the ACC Network—if it is going to develop into the significant revenue source the league needs it to be, it needs to be in as many households as possible.

The Pac-12 Network still is not available on DirecTV, and maybe never will be, and its overall lack of national distribution has been an ongoing problem. While the Big Ten and SEC rake in cash off of their networks, the Pac-12 lags well behind. The ACC did not want to end up in that sort of purgatory.
