I’m a big fan of the first sentence in this brief note on NC State’s poultry judging team:
That’s how you spice up the subject matter right there! At the time this was written—December of 1926—the notion was a new one. Nowadays, of course, all who traverse the campus grounds have sundry other appellations attached to their names, in addition to “cruelest heartbreaker.” It’s tradition.
Is there a mustache hall of fame? If there is, then this guy is an inner-circle candidate if he isn’t there already.
Ivan Logginovitch Goremykin, Russian statesman, late 19th or early 20th century. After serving as Interior Minister from 1895 until 1899, Goremykin (1839-1917) twice served as Prime Minister of Imperial Russia, in 1906 and then from 1914 to 1916.
How did someone write this caption without mentioning the mustache at all. There’s no mention of it on his wikipedia page, either, which is a terrible oversight. The page does include this painting, though, so I’ll call it even.
