NC State picks up first 2021 commitment: wide receiver Julian Gray

NCAA Football: Syracuse at North Carolina State Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

NC State finally got the ball rolling in its 2021 recruiting class on Saturday with the verbal commitment of Julian Gray, who visited the Wolfpack over the weekend. Gray was offered a scholarship by NC State in February.

Gray’s biggest asset is his speed, which has been a recent focus area for NC State’s staff. Gray was clocked running a sub 4.5-40 yard dash at a recruiting showcase last year, per Pack Pride, and during his junior season he averaged more than 21 yards per catch.

Last year made it painfully evident that NC State lacks receivers who can stretch the field and between Gray and some of the late adds to the 2020 class, State hopefully will have some improved options down the road.

Gray is listed at 5’10.5 and 174 pounds by 247Sports. He also holds offers from Duke, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and Georgia Tech. He’s a consensus three-star prospect.
