NC State is one of several high-major programs to reach out and gauge interest from forward Makhtar Gueye, who announced on Friday that he’d decided to leave UAB. UAB made a coaching change this offseason, replacing Rob Ehsan with Andy Kennedy. (Yeah, that Andy Kennedy.)

Gueye has heard from NC State, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, Miami, and San Diego State, per Rivals’ Corey Evans.

Gueye just finished up his junior season with the Blazers, but I’m not sure if he’s the regular ol’ sit-one-play-one type or a grad transfer. He averaged about 7 points and 5 boards for the Blazers in 2020, slumping a bit after an excellent sophomore campaign.

His biggest problem is in his desire to expand his game beyond the arc: for his career, he’s 36-138 (26.1%), and shot just 17-59 (28.8%) this season. He’s a good rebounder at both ends and he can block some shots and if he cuts down on those threes, I figure he can be a solid secondary option at the high-major level.
