Kevin Keatts got his second commitment of the 2021 class early Sunday night with the pledge of 4-star forward Ernest Ross. Ross, a Florida native, is currently the 43rd ranked player nationally according to 247Sports. He chose the Pack over offers from Florida, LSU, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, USF, Virginia Tech, and Xavier.

Ross definitely fits a type. In some regards, he’s a similar prospect to Manny Bates and D.J. Funderburk, who were impressive physical athletes with raw skillsets when they entered the program. Here is Ross’ scouting report from 247Sports’ Josh Gershon.

High level athlete with good size and length. Pretty physically immature; has plenty of room to grow into body. As athletic as he is, should only improve there with added strength. Physical tools should make him an extremely versatile defender. Very raw on offense; doesn’t have go-to move in halfcourt. Best in transition due to athleticism. Will need to improve facing and posting up. Has chance to be very good rebounder. Development of skill will determine everything; has NBA size, length and athleticism but will need to bridge gap between skill and physical tools. Wide variety of possible outcomes for now.

Ross joins 4-star guard Terquavion Smith to give Keatts an excellent start in the 2021 recruiting cycle.
