It looks like the ACC will be looking for a new commissioner next year. According to a report from Luke DeCock and Steve Wiseman in the N&O, John Swofford is planning to retire in June of 2021.
I know a lot of folks like to grumble about the man’s UNC ties, but I’ve always thought he did a pretty good job running the league. I mean, the ACC did survive the chaos of realignment, after all—that’s a rather crucial accomplishment. He also helped to usher in the ACC Network, which will be important to the long-term viability of the conference.
According to the article, some executives with ACC ties are likely to get a look as replacements, and that includes the athletics directors at West Virginia and USF. Clemson AD Dan Radakovich may be a candidate as well.
