BTP The Offseason, Day 159: Oh it’s a cluster, all right

NC State and UNC have been back in session for a week, and already things are looking a bit tenuous in Chapel Hill, as the school has discovered four separate COVID-19 clusters on campus. A cluster is five or more positive cases in a single dorm.

In a stunning development, it turns out a lot of college kids aren’t being deterred from partying amid the coronavirus. Videos of large gatherings at both UNC and NC State have circulated on social media lately, while ECU recently shut down a party with like 400 people in attendance. Doesn’t seem like this is going to get better before it gets worse!

NC State’s online coronavirus tracking page isn’t very comprehensive, but the testing results they do have show just four new cases last week. It’s tough to tell if State students are doing a better job than their peers elsewhere at staying out of dumb situations, or if the reporting is just lacking.

At any rate, these are situations to keep an eye on since if they spiral out of control, it’s likely a matter of time before they start hitting the athletes on campus.
