Volleyball posts by me fell by the wayside as the women's basketball team had my undivided attention. My last post followed the volleyball team's loss at Georgia Tech on October 31st-a one set to three set loss.
Since the Georgia Tech match, State's volleyball team has gone 2-2 to make their record 15-12 overall; 9-7 ACC. My guess is with two matches at Reynolds against teams State handled on the road, Syracuse and Clemson, State will end the season 17-12; 11-7.
State for the 2020 season played a split season due to covid with matches played in the fall of 2020 and in the spring of 2021 and played only conference teams. State during the 2020 season which was made up of games played as noted, went 8-9 overall and 7-9 in conference. State during the split 2020 season played Duke three times the third of which was not considered a conference game.
On November 5th State lost at home to currently number 2 ranked Louisville three sets to none. On November the 12th, State had a rematch at Notre Dame whom they beat three sets to two in Reynolds on November 7th. State lost the rematch three sets to none. State then won a rematch with and at Virginia on November 20th three sets to none.
Ending the 2021 season with a winning conference and overall record would be an improvement over the 2018 record (15-13; 9-9), the 2019 record (11-19; 6-12) and the 2020 record (8-9; 7-9) but would not match the 2017 record (21-12, 15-5). Of course the 2017 team was one of the best volleyball teams State has had making it to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
