In a season of big disappointments, NC State baseball is still reasonably well-positioned to make the NCAA tournament. The Wolfpack has been playing a lot better over the last couple of weeks, but dropped two of three to Notre Dame over the weekend, including a one-run loss on Friday.
Those one-run losses tend to sting a bit more when you’re fighting to make up ground this time of year.
At 16-13 (9-12), the Wolfpack would almost certainly be left out of the NCAAs were the field drawn today, but the Pack has lately improved its position on the bubble lately. D1Baseball.com has NC State as the third team out as of this week, which ain’t so bad considering how the season started.
State hosts a big series against Virginia Tech this weekend—the Hokies top the Coastal Division and they are safely in the NCAA field. The Pack needs to add a couple quality wins to the ledger this weekend. (Not to mention start playing better at home, sheesh.)
This thing’ll probably be touch-and-go right up to the season’s conclusion, and I for one appreciate the baseball team stepping in to provide this excess stress level where the men’s basketball team could not.
