The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at North Carolina State University will shelter the National Thanksgiving Turkey and its alternate. The lucky duo, Chocolate & Chip, were pardoned by President Biden in a ceremony at the White House on November 21st. Public records indicate that the pair were arrested in 2021 for robbery + breaking and entering into a local Dollar Tree. First reports indicated that the suspects were armed and there were concerns that fowl play might be involved. Those reports were later determined to be erroneous and possibly linked to a separate incident that occurred nearby. Chocolate and Chip reported being homeless at the time of the incident and, had they known better, would have broken into a store that offered more than just can openers that break in a couple of days. John Dole, CALS Interim Dean, said in a interview with Court TV that, "The birds couldn't be in better hands." In addition to housing and food, the birds will receive rehabilitation and counseling services. When reached for comment after the ceremony a confused but exuberant Chocolate exclaimed, "Gobble, Gobble, Gobble!"
