WBB: State hosts the Quinnipiac Bobcats

Jakia at line

N. C. State's women's basketball team opens the season by hosting Quinnipiac at 5:00 p.m. Monday, November 7th. The game will be streamed on the ESPN app as an ACCNX game. This will be the first meeting between the Bobcats of Quinnipiac and State.

While Quinnipiac did not play an exhibition game, last season the Bobcats were 21-12 overall and 14-6 in the MAAC Conference. Quinnipiac did make the WNIT last season winning their first game against Rhode Island 61-50 and losing their second game at Boston College 68-94.

The Bobcats return three players who started against B.C. They are five-ten graduate student Rose Caverly, six-two senior Mikala Morris and five-nine graduate student Mackenzie DeWees. DeWees was All-MAAC first team last season and averaged 13.8 ppg. Morris was All-MAAC second team last season and averaged 11.7 ppg and 9.5 rpg. Caverly averaged 8.8 ppg and 3.8 apg.

Quinnipiac on a roster of 15 has 12 players who return from last season.

Unfortunately neither HerHoopsStats nor WarrenNolan have information with regard to this game neither having started covering the 2022-23 season. While the rosters of both State and Quinnipiac have changed, it will be interesting to look at common opponents from last season. Both State and Quinnipiac played Indiana with State beating Indiana there 66-58 and Quinnipiac losing at Indiana 67-59. As noted above Quinnipiac lost to B.C. in the WNIT 94-68 while State beat B.C. there 85-78 in overtime.

While Quinnipiac is ranked 8th in the Women's Mid-Major Top 25 by College Insider and are the MAAC favorites, I predict State to win by 20+ while also thinking that this game is going to be more interesting than I thought it to be before my research.
