Softball: State Finishes 10th

Shake it off, little bird, shake off that 10th place finish and let's go Pack!

State wrapped up the regular season by losing three to FSU-not unexpected. In view of this, State (7-17 conference) finished 10th in the 2022 regular season standings and will play Georgia Tech (11-13 conference) in the first round of the ACC Softball Tournament on Wednesday May 11th at 3:30 p.m. in Pittsburgh, Pa. (ACC Network-not Bally Sports-yahoo!). Syracuse and Louisville play in the first round at 1:00 p.m.

UNC who was vying for that 10th place finish with State did not make the ACC Tournament finishing 6-18 in the conference.

State finished the regular season 33-22 overall; 7-17 conference. State hosting FSU this past weekend as mentioned above lost all three games of the series by the scores of 3-1; 10-6; and 8-4. State last played Georgia Tech at Tech on April 15-16 also losing all three of those games by the scores of 3-0; 9-1; and 5-1. Do we have a chance to beat Georgia Tech? Maybe with Maddie McPherson pitching (3.99 ERA; 13-11; pitched 3-1 loss to FSU).

This is my opinion and the opinion of a few analyst who chose to comment on this method of hitting: as long as Coach has batters swing for the fence every at bat using an uppercut swing, the batters will be easy prey for good pitchers. State hits a lot of home runs, but State also continues to lose. Or, could it be the lack of pitching?

State finished 2nd in the conference in home runs with 81 to Duke's 86. However, State with regard to batting average finished 10th at 263. Duke finished first at 335. State led the league in strikeouts with 368-no other team was close.

State's pitching staff notched a 3.81 ERA to finish 9th in the conference. Duke again finished 1st at 1.74

Some surprises in the final conference standings are Virginia Tech finishing first at 21-3 and Clemson finishing fifth at 14-10. FSU was picked in the preseason to finish first, Clemson second and VaTech 3rd. Duke who finished 2nd was picked to finish 4th.

Go Pack. Oh, knowing how things go, I do not expect State's game to actually start at 3:30 p.m. Maybe 4 p.m.
