WBB: State verses Elon

N. C. State coming off a big time victory over UConn which propelled State into ESPNW's 9th position in their weekly power rankings (highest rated ACC team just ahead of VaTech) plays Elon on Wednesday November 15th, 2023 on Kay Yow's Court. The game is an ACCNX 7:00 p.m. stream.

State's record against Elon is 13-1 with State's only loss coming at Broughton High School on Sunday December 16th, 2015; a 66-69 loss.

State's last game against Elon was an 89-55 win in Raleigh on Thursday November 10th, 2022. The only time that State has played Elon outside of the November/December part of their schedule was in 2018 when State faced Elon in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. This game was also in Raleigh, was played on Friday March 16th, and State won 62-35. In that NCAA Tournament, State defeated Maryland in the second round of the Tournament 74-60 and then lost in the Sweet 16 to Mississippi State 71-57.

From warrennolan, State's Live RPI has taken a dramatic jump moving up to 2, a climb of 26 since October 17th, 2023. State is 2-0 overall, has a NET of 17, an ELO of 6, an SOS of 3 and one quad 1 win. Of course, State's biggest win was over NET 2 UConn 92-81.

Against Gardner-Webb, Elon started five-ten sophomore Ruby Willard, five-eight grad student Vanessa Taylor, five-eight grad student Jessica Booth, five-three sophomore Regina Walton and six-foot grad student Maya Johnson. Five-four freshman Maraja Pass got 30 minutes off the bench while six-one senior Ajia James got 20. Maraja led the team in scoring with 16 shooting 6-7 from the floor while Ajia and Ruby had 14 each. Elon shot 40% from the arc; 54.8 from the floor.

Even with a pending let down from Sunday's game against UConn, State should win easily. Hoping that Zoe Brooks, Laci Steele, Lizzy Williamson, Mallory Collier and Maddie Cox get lots of minutes. Hope to see Katie Peneueta also.
