A copy of the coach’s new contract (download PDF), which was approved by N.C. State’s Board of Trustees on Friday, shows that Gottfried can earn up to $1 million in bonuses annually. That includes a maximum of $250,000 in bonuses for "academic team achievement" and up to $750,000 for what’s labeled as "competitive team achievement."

The Wolfpack extended its current winning streak to a season-best five games and improved its record for the season to 23-16. NC State has won 13 of its last 19 games after a 10-10 start to the season. UNCW lost for the second night in a row and fell to 21-16.

"I think we have a long ways to go," Gottfried said. "But I like their attitude as far as they want to win, want to learn how to win and I think they are hunting for some direction. I like where they are mentally." That new relationship has Gottfried convinced every one of his players will return next season, electing not to transfer or declare for the NBA draft.
