NC State Baseball Wins With The Good Old Mostly-Perfecto

Rob Foldy-US PRESSWIRE

Box Score

Ryan Wilkins normally comes out of the bullpen for NC State, but on Tuesday he got the start against East Carolina and did not let the opportunity go to waste. Wilkins left the contest after five innings pitched with a perfect game intact; he'd needed only about 12 pitches per inning. His removal is entirely understandable since we need him available for the weekend--this was essentially long relief, it just happened to come from the start of the game--but still it's tough not to wonder.

Josh Easley and Grant Sasser were fine in his stead, though, giving up four hits and a run over the final four innings, combining to strike out six in the process. State got a pair of doubles from Brett Williams, who knocked in three runs. And Carlos Rodon, who served as DH, finished with a pair of hits. Relievers throwing perfect games! Ace pitchers with multi-hit games! Dog and cats living together!

The victory improved NC State's record to 20-10. The Pack is back at it Wednesday with a home game against Elon.
