NC State Wins Third Straight With 8-6 Victory Over Elon

Rob Foldy-US PRESSWIRE

NC State continued its solid play in mid-week games with an 8-6 win over Elon on Wednesday. Since being swept at Virginia, the Pack has won five of six, and against the Phoenix it got some revenge for that unfortunate 24-12 drubbing at their place a month ago.

Karl Keglovitz got the start for State but didn't make it through the first inning, allowing a pair of runs on three hits. But D.J. Thomas was fantastic in a long relief role, which gave the Wolfpack the opportunity to open up a 6-2 lead. Once Thomas left the game, things went right on back to hell and Elon managed to tie the game with a four-run seventh. Fortunately, State got a pair of runs in the bottom half of the seventh to re-claim the lead, and Grant Sasser took it from there. Sasser recorded the final eight outs of the game, six of which were strikeouts.

Carlos Rodon was in the lineup for the second consecutive day at DH and had one hit.

Next up for the Wolfpack: a series at home against Virginia Tech. The Hokies (21-9) are ranked in the RPI top 10 (!).
