Carlos Rodon Beats William & Mary, 1-0

Carlos Rodon is good at baseball. I'm not sure what beyond the obvious I can come up with at this point. For the second consecutive start, Rodon was dominant, and he carried a no-hitter into the later stages of the game.

William & Mary starter John Farrell was outstanding as well, but State managed to scrounge up a run and make it stick on this occasion. The Pack could have taken early advantage of some mistakes but stranded runners on third base in several instances before finally breaking through with a run.

As it turned out, that was all Rodon would need. There were no defensive meltdowns this time around, and Rodon finished a complete-game shutout in a relatively tidy 111 pitches. Now State can advance with a win Sunday, and the pitching staff is in good shape to handle whatever happens. Stone, Jernigan, Wilkins, Overman ... some combination of that group hopefully will put an end to the regional.
