NC State baseball sweeps Longwood, preserves at-large NCAA tourney chances

Dave Weaver-USA TODAY Sports

The Wolfpack did what was necessary this weekend, beating Longwood three times and extending its winning streak to five games. NC State is now 26-18 (11-12). The Pack's RPI is somewhereabouts 54th, winning streak considered.

The Wolfpack closes the regular season with series against Wake Forest and Louisville, giving the Pack an opportunity to improve its ACC tournament position, and maybe lock down a spot in an NCAA tournament regional.

If NC State can win its midweek game against Campbell, take its upcoming series on the road against Wake, then snag at least one game against Louisville during the following weekend, State can feel decent about its postseason chances.

If not, well, the ACC tournament may end up a jumble that we don't want to consider. NC State fell short of playing for a postseason spot last year; that could change this year when you throw the tie-breakers into the mix, and as far as that goes, hold onto every butt, including your own.
