Here we are at the brink, the rubber match for what has become a high-stakes three-game set between NC State and TCU. The winner keeps on playing, while the loser is eliminated from the NCAA tournament. The Wolfpack will initially pin their hopes on Johnny Piedmonte, who'll be making his 12th start of the season.
The Horned Frogs are going with Alex Young (79 IP / 77 K / 19 BB), as anticipated, and he'll be a challenging matchup unless State happens to catch him on an off day. And that's fine if he wants to have an off day. Would be totally cool with me.
If Piedmonte struggles early, perhaps the Pack could insert an, uh, unheralded walk-on. Carlos Rodon will need a disguise of some sort, but I think we can make this work.
