Before the Elon lineup could even make it back to the top of their order, this game was over. SR 1B Evan Edwards drove in six runs, JR SS Will Wilson drove in four, and three NC State pitchers combined to strikeout 19 Elon hitters while allowing just a single earned run as the Wolfpack destroyed the Phoenix 21-2 on Tuesday evening in Raleigh.

Edwards blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the 1st inning, Wilson added a two-run shot as part of a seven-run 2nd inning, and the rest was a cakewalk as the Wolfpack won big. Nine NC State hitters reached base multiple times in the game.

Let’s just get to the stats because they’re awesome, as was State in this game:

Lot of lot of good numbers

Yes, you’re reading that correctly... PITCHER MATHIEU GAUTHIER HIT A 2-RUN SINGLE! He also pitched like a freaking boss in earning the save (the three-inning save technicality). Let’s look how the three pitchers did today:

  • Alec Barger: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 10 K
  • Andrew Tillery: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
  • Mathieu Gauthier: 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K

NC State is back in action again Wednesday night against North Carolina A&T at First National Bank Field in Greensboro.
