NC State took two of three from UNC this weekend, and in the process earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming ACC tournament. The Wolfpack finished at 18-12 in league play, in sole possession of second in the Atlantic Division.
The Pack is the top seed in Pool C, which also includes No. 6 Florida State and No. 10 Wake Forest. Pool play begins on Tuesday, though the Pack won’t play until Thursday night when it opens with the Deacs.
To advance out of the pool and reach the semis, NC State simply needs to beat the winner of the FSU/Wake game—those two play on Tuesday afternoon. As the top seed in its pool, State has the luxury of the tiebreaker if everybody finishes 1-1. So either the Wake game Thursday or the FSU game on Friday will be irrelevant to NC State’s prospects. Only the FSU-Wake winner matters.
The schedule puts the Pack in ideal position because it will know which game is the big one before ever stepping onto the field and Elliott Avent can set up his pitching staff accordingly.
The four pool play winners advance to the semifinals on Saturday and the championship game is set for Sunday afternoon. All of the games will air on FSN/RSN, with the exception of the title game, which airs on ESPN2.
