Well, it was opening day. Sadly, it is no longer opening day. COVID-19 issues within the VMI baseball program led to the cancellation of the weekend series between the Wolfpack and Keydets.
SCHEDULE UPDATE:
— #Pack9 ⚾️ (@NCStateBaseball) February 19, 2021
Our series this weekend vs. VMI has been canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Keydet program. We are seeking a replacement opponent, which will be announced if and when it becomes available.
VMI was one of only two out-of-state teams on NC State’s non-conference schedule. Let’s hope the Pack can find some games for this weekend, but that may be tough since there probably aren’t a lot of teams sitting out this first weekend. State’s next opponent is Greensboro on Tuesday, but the Spartans have a series this weekend against Elon, so they would not be an option to just come to Raleigh early.
East Carolina is also occupied this weekend, alas. This would have been a good excuse to get the Pirates back on the schedule since it’s silly they aren’t on it in the first place.
Anyway, stay tuned and we’ll provide any scheduling updates if they come.
