Womp womp wooooomp...

NC State jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on UNCG Tuesday afternoon, but then squandered that by allowing UNCG to put up 16 runs over the game’s final five innings in a 16-13 loss.

That was brutal.

Wolfpack starting pitcher Chris Villaman was outstanding in his 2021 debut, going 3.0 innings, allowing just one hit, no runs, no walks, and striking out five batters.

Let’s just not talk about what happened with the bullpen after that because it’s only going to make me angry again. Here’s all you need to know: seven bullpen arms WHO SHALL REMAIN NAMELESS put up a combined line of: 6.0 IP, 13 H, 16 R, 13 ER, 8 BB, 2 HBP, 7 K.

The NC State defense also committed two errors, each of which directly resulted in runs being scored by UNCG.

Offensively... well, hey, now there’s something we can speak about. The Wolfpack bats pounded out 13 runs on 18 hits. Call me crazy, but that should be sufficient to earn a victory, but that’s just my weird line of thinking.

Austin Murr (5-6, 2B, 3 R, RBI, SB), Luca Tresh (4-5, 2B, HR, 2 R, 4 RBI, BB), Jonny Butler (2-3, HR, 3 R, 4 RBI, HBP, SF), and JT Jarrett (3-5, 2B, 2 R) led the offensive showing. Tyler McDonough (1-4, 2B, 2 R, 2 BB) also reached base multiple times. Terrell Tatum hit a two-run home run.

It’s just a shame that State’s bullpen couldn’t keep the Spartans to an average of two runs/inning.

Oh well. On to the next game, which is... oh, great... ACC play. Georgia Tech comes to Raleigh this weekend.
