NC State bounced back after suffering a weekend sweep by taking out Campbell Tuesday afternoon by a score of 14-6. The Wolfpack jumped out to an early lead in the 1st, led 14-0 in the 6th, and cruised to victory despite some late runs tacked on by the Camels.
Austin Murr led off the bottom of the 1st inning with a solo home run to stake State to an early lead. Tyler McDonough followed with a single and Luca Tresh smashed his 6h home run in seven games to make it a 3-0 game early.
The Pack added three more runs in the 2nd and the game was never in doubt from there.
David Harrison started the game for State and provided 3.0 innings of scoreless ball. Matt Willadsen followed, and after a bit of a shaky first inning on the mound, found his groove and threw 4.0 innings of hitless, scoreless relief. Given the recent woes of the pitching staff, that was a sight for sore eyes.
Harrison’s final line: 3.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K.
Willadsen’s final line: 4.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K.
The rest of the bullpen from there was a little shaky as State threw six guys over the final two frames, including three who were making their season debut. That didn’t go as well, but it didn’t matter in this one.
Tresh (2-4, HR, 2 R, 4 RBI), Murr (1-2, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB), McDonough (2-5, 2 R, 2 RBI), Devonte Brown (2-4, 2B, 2 R, BB), Vojtech Mensik (2-4, 2 R, RBI, BB), Jose Torres (1-2, 2 R, 2 BB), and Jonny Butler (1-4, 2 R, BB, SB) each reached base safely multiple times. JT Jarrett also drove in two runs on the day.
NC State is back in action this weekend as they continue ACC play by hosting Miami.
