NC State squared off with Boston College ace Mason Pelio, a highly regarded MLB Draft prospect, in the series opener Friday afternoon. The Wolfpack were apparently up to the challenge, forcing BC to use six pitchers while State’s hitters reached base safely 28 times in the game.
It would, uhh, take quite a bit of time to recap all of the runs scored in this one. So let’s just look at the box score and some fun facts from this one!
Every NC State starter reached base safely multiple times in the game. Seven hitters pounded out multiple hits. JT Jarrett took a pitch off the chest like a beast!
Reid Johnston was excellent over the first five innings, allowing just two base runners (a single and a walk) while pitching a shut out. He ran into trouble in the 6th, issuing a couple free passes (HBP, BB) to start the inning that eventually led to three runs being scored. He would leave with two outs in the 7th with a runner on base (via another walk), who would eventually cross the plate.
Johnston’s final line: 6.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, 1 HBP.
The win pushes NC State back across the .500 line on the season, improving to 12-11 overall and 6-10 in the ACC.
Game Two of the series is Saturday at
3:00pm 1:00pm. Sam Highfill will be on the mound for the Pack while the Eagles will send Emmet Sheehan to the bump.
