NC State baseball is probably on the right side of the NCAA tournament bubble at this point

It took a hell of an effort just to get to this point.

NC State reached .500 in ACC play with a weekend sweep of Virginia Tech, and the Wolfpack’s RPI is up to 38 (unofficially). State needs to close out this season with more strong play, but if the NCAA tournament started today, odds are pretty good that the Pack would be in.

In the latest regional projections from D1Baseball, NC State is a No. 3 seed in South Carolina’s regional. But D1Baseball also sees NC State on a razor-thin line at the moment, projected as the second-to-last at-large team in the field (just ahead of UNC).

Over the last two weekends, NC State picked up four wins over RPI top-40 squads that are definitely in the field, which helps a whole lot. State will conclude the regular season with a pair of series against teams definitely in the field, including Pittsburgh, which may be a regional host at this point. (Weird year.)

But before those opportunities arrive, NC State needs to get a series win against Wake this weekend in order to hold its at-large positioning.
