Fresh off a sweep of the Pitt Panthers, NC State is back in the Baseball America top 25, checking in at No. 24. The Panthers fell out of the rankings completely. State killed Virginia Tech’s hosting chances earlier in the season and may well have done the same to the Panthers, who were on the bubble heading into the weekend.
The Wolfpack has won 16 of 21 league games after that disastrous 1-8 start and if you’d told me then that this group would not only bounce back but finish above .500 in the ACC, I ... probably would have been doubtful.
Regardless of the rankings, State has been playing up to its preseason top-15 hype of late and definitely peaking at the right time, what with the postseason a little over a week away. This is a refreshing change from 2018/2019, when the team got off to hot starts but wasn’t playing especially well down the stretch, and got nowhere in the NCAA tournament.
This NC State team feels more and more like one that can get out of a regional.
