NC State is safely in the NCAA tournament field at this moment and probably doesn’t have to worry about what happens this weekend and in ACC tournament next week. Even a winless run over that span might not matter, though I’d appreciate not having to deal with that scenario. (Thanks in advance, baseball team.)
After the Wolfpack’s sweep at Pittsburgh over the weekend, it moved up to a No. 2 seed in D1Baseball’s latest NCAA tournament projections. NC State is slotted into No. 4 national seed Tennessee’s regional—that’d be fun!—which also means State is slotted above a few No. 2 seeds in the at-large pecking order.
The rest of the ACC remains fluid, with Notre Dame the only school projected to host a regional. The Pack might have knocked Pitt out of regional hosting consideration for good. And back when State played Virginia Tech, the Hokies were trying to position themselves for a hosting spot ... and now they’re projected to be on the outside looking in.
It would have been nice for that particular series sweep to age better for NC State, but Tech has been pretty bad lately. Alas.
In total, D1Baseball projects 10 ACC teams are in the field as of Tuesday.
