NC State takes series from Wake Forest with 15-8 win

Do you want to know the terrible truth, or do you want to watch the Wolfpack sock some dingers?

This may stun you, but for the third straight day, the baseball was flying out of Wake Forest’s ballpark. NC State scored double-digit runs again Sunday, this time a series-high 15, in kerblammo-ing its way to taking two of three from the Demon Deacons.

For the second time this weekend, the two teams combined to hit nine home runs, with the Wolfpack accounting for four of them. Tyler McDonough had himself a monster day, going 4-6 with a pair of homers. He very much enjoyed that short porch in right. (Though to be fair, both his HRs would have been gone anywhere.)

McDonough hit three homers this weekend, as did Terrell Tatum, who launched an opposite-field three-run shot today. This baby might have traveled like 320 feet, but hey, that’s more than enough distance at that park.

Seven State players had multiple hits, and the first three hitters in the lineup accounted for 10 of the team’s 20 base knocks.

Reid Johnston was solid on the mound before running into problems in the sixth and seventh, though by then NC State had a 10-run cushion to work with. The Deacs managed to cut their 12-2 deficit to 13-8 in the seventh but would get no closer. Dalton Feeney struck out the side in the ninth to put the game away without much stress.

The Pack improved to 14-13 in the ACC with this win, putting it a game behind Clemson and FSU, who are tied for third in the Atlantic, and two games behind second-place Louisville. NC State has an opportunity to rest up a bit now, as it does not have a series scheduled for next weekend. State will play mid-week games against Elon and UNC-Wilmington prior to traveling to Pitt on the 14th.
