Five-star 2016 point guard Dennis Smith Jr. had surgery on his knee on Friday, and on Monday his father confirmed to ESPN that it was to repair a torn ACL. Smith is expected to be sidelined for six-to-nine months, which is a pretty standard recovery timetable for this sort of injury. He injured his knee while playing at an AAU event eight days ago.

NC State has been considered the leader to land Smith, who is regarded as one of the 10 best players in the 2016 recruiting class. State is also heavily involved with one of his AAU teammates, big man Edrice Adebayo, who is also a five-star prospect.

Best wishes to Smith on a speedy recovery.
