Former Creighton commit Ian Steere announced his new college choice on Friday morning, and he’s headed to NC State. The consensus four-star forward from High Point, NC, is one of the top-ranked players in North Carolina this recruiting cycle. Steere gives NC State two commitments in its 2018 class, both of them bigs. (Immanuel Bates being the other.)
Steere is listed at 6’9 and 230 by 247Sports, and he is just a hair outside the national top 100 in the recruiting rankings. He visited State in the spring after Kevin Keatts was hired, but he pulled the trigger for Creighton in July. He decommitted from Creighton a couple of weeks ago.
That sort of thing is far more unusual in basketball than football—decommitting and heading elsewhere, especially where no coaching change is involved—but hey, we’ll take it. His offer sheet is impressive: Kansas, Louisville, Florida State, UConn, Maryland, etc.
Shoring up the frontcourt in this class is important for Kevin Keatts and his staff, and this is another positive step toward doing that. Next year’s team will have its growing pains out of sheer inexperience, but with Steere now on board, the Pack has a couple of talented forward prospects it can work with.
