NC State signee Thomas Allen was supposedly still solid with the Wolfpack even after Mark Gottfried was fired, but nope, nope, you can forget about that. Allen has requested a release from his letter of intent and will be playing his college ball elsewhere.
Allen, who is an excellent shooter, probably could have been a useful piece in Kevin Keatts’ system, but coaching changes always through recruiting up in the air, especially when other schools have a solid month to get in kids’ ears. Not saying that’s definitely what happened, but yeah that’s definitely what happened.
It’s a tough blow for NC State in the near term, but this stuff comes with the territory. All you can ever hope for in a coaching change is greater long-term stability and success forged from the inevitable initial chaos.
I wish Thomas Allen all the best wherever he ends up, and I’m disappointed it won’t be Raleigh.
