Guard Jamie Lewis decommits from NC State ahead of a big recruiting weekend for both basketball and football

Bad news will hopefully be replaced by good news over the next several days.

This upcoming weekend is a big recruiting weekend for both basketball and football. Things are heating up for Coach Keatts, as we are about two months from the early signing period. Football is currently on a dead period, but the most important target for the Pack in 2018 is scheduled to announce on Saturday.

Jamie Lewis committed to the Pack in June. He is a three star guard whose status has been up in the air in regards to his commitment to the Pack. Today he announced that he has opened up his recruitment and is no longer committed to NC State. This was not a surprise. I’m not sure if State will look to take another guard, based all of the young guards State currently has.

David McCormack is a four star center from Virginia. He visited State last weekend and will visit Xavier this weekend. His coach stated that he wants to speed up his recruitment process and possibly commit by the end of September. If that were to happen, it would likely be a decision between Kansas and State.

Keldon Johnson is a consensus five star forward who is also visiting State this weekend. I’m not 100% sure whether it is an official or an unofficial, but this is his second visit to State in three weeks. This would be a huge recruiting coup for Keatts if he could pull it off, going against the likes of Texas, who has been on him for years, Maryland, FSU and Kentucky.

Manny Bates is also taking an official visit this weekend. He is another center we are targeting who wants to commit early. We would certainly take both McCormack and Bates because we have so much playing time available in the front court next year, but I’m not sure how they would feel about it.

Carson McCorkle is a 2021 kid (I have no idea what grade that would be) from Raleigh. I’m not 100% sure if he has an offer but he’s like 11 years old so he has plenty of time to earn one.

I wouldn’t expect a commitment from Johnson or Bates this weekend because they have future visits scheduled, but certainly it is possible.

On the football side, Alim McNeill is a defensive end from Sanderson who is supposed to announce on Saturday. He is a consensus four star recruit and would be a huge boost to this recruiting class, especially on the defensive line. McNeill is a huge State lean who named the Pack as his leader last month. Long story short, State needs this guy really badly. He is a local, top 200 or so recruit in the country who has had the Pack as his favorite throughout the entire process. On top of that, he is a defensive lineman and is probably guaranteed to play next year because of the four seniors who will be gone after the season. He supposedly took visits to FSU and VT recently, and UNC is in the race as well. If for some reason he doesn’t announce on Saturday, that is very bad, no good news for the Pack.

McNeill would give the Pack two top ten recruits in NC, to go along with running back Ricky Person, who is an animal. He has about 800 yards and 11 touchdowns through three games.

Special thanks to Dave Doeren who gave me a donut today in Talley.
