NC State point guard signee Jalen Lecque has known for a while that he could be eligible for this year’s NBA Draft, and he’ll know for certain later this month. Lecque filed paperwork with the NBA to ascertain his status and it is likely he’ll be deemed draft-eligible.
If that happens, you can expect him to declare for the draft and go through the evaluation process while leaving open the option to attend NC State in the fall. While he seems far from a lottery pick at this point, he’s also been seen by a whole lot of pro scouts this season, and there’s always the chance that a team makes a financial commitment that he’s willing to take.
So his fate as it pertains to NC State is probably going to be up in the air for a while—he would have until late May to withdraw from the draft, if things progress that far.
Certainly there are signs that he could use a year in college—he shot only 26% from three-point range at Brewster Academy this season. But his elite athleticism gives him a lot of projectable upside in the here and now.
