Trey Wertz quickly became a popular guy after announcing his decision to transfer from Santa Clara. Wertz has heard from lots of high-major programs, several of them from the ACC. NC State has already offered Wertz a scholarship.
The Charlotte native spent two seasons at Santa Clara and is a traditional transfer who’ll have to sit out next season. He’s not the only undergraduate transfer guard that Kevin Keatts has been interested in this offseason, either. (Jamarius Burton is another.)
Hey, maybe we can get Herb Sendek and Julius Hodge to put in a good word for us. ... Well, maybe not so much Herb. [awkwardly tugging at collar]
Wertz averaged 11.9 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game this season. He substantially improved on his outside shooting as a sophomore, and he’s hit well above 50% inside the arc in both college seasons. His career numbers: 76.2% at the free throw line, 54.8% inside the arc, 35.6% from three.
