Incoming NC State freshman guard Terquavion Smith has been named Mr. Basketball in North Carolina by the Charlotte Observer. Frankly I don’t see the big deal with this, I mean it’s not like he’s Dr. Basketball. But I guess it’s hard to get a doctorate in basketball before you get to college.

Smith had another great year at Farmville Central, helping the school to its third consecutive 2A state title. Smith has been committed to NC State since his sophomore year, committing to Kevin Keatts way back in February of 2019.

Maybe that’s why there doesn’t seem to be a lot of hype associated with Smith’s impending move to Raleigh—shutting down one’s recruitment early in high school doesn’t lend itself to much attention from the recruiting sites in the years afterward, I suppose.

But Smith is a consensus top-100 prospect in the 2021 class and can be an important building block for the next few years. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up an underrated get for Keatts.
