It's safe to say the first ACC tournament Tuesday was a success. After the first game went down to the wire, so did the second, with Virginia Tech and Wake Forest trading the lead down the stretch. Both teams shot the ball well in what was a tremendously entertaining game, but the Hokies are the ones advancing.
They had to dodge several bullets in the final seconds as the Deacs had a couple of point-blank putback opportunities carom off the rim and out. Rebounding and handling Devin Thomas were issues for Virginia Tech all day.
Virginia Tech is on to sixth-seeded Miami on Wednesday night. If the Hokies get another big game from Jalen Hudson while Adam Smith starts cookin' (he was only 3-8 today), this group starts to look a lot more interesting.
