Cat Barber cleared to play, expected to be ready for start of NCAA tournament

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Cat Barber underwent tests on Friday and has been cleared to return to basketball activities, NC State announced. Barber, who missed the bulk of the second half against Duke after getting hurt, was diagnosed with neck spasms. He suffered the injury after running into a solid screen at full speed.

He's expected to be ready for NC State's first NCAA tournament game, be that on Thursday or Friday, but the most important thing is that Barber didn't suffer another concussion. That was the scary part about yesterday, given his history of head injuries in college. He's endured two of them in two seasons.

NC State's release says that Barber will "continue to receive treatment" leading up to the start of the NCAAs. In addition to the ugly collision with Amile Jefferson, Barber also hurt his back a bit in a scrum against Pittsburgh. Safe to say he can use some time to heal.
