NC State is NCAA tournament bound for the fourth consecutive season, and the fourth time in four tries under Mark Gottfried. The Wolfpack drew a No. 8 seed this year and will be up against No. 9 LSU in the East Region. Let the madness begin, y'all.
LSU finished the regular season 22-10 and 11-7 in the SEC, and got bounced in the first round of the league tournament. The Tigers have been similar to NC State in that they can be highly erratic, with some impressive performances and equally head-scratching efforts. The Tigers played Kentucky down to the wire at home and beat West Virginia in Morgantown, but they've also lost to Missouri (KenPom No. 210), Mississippi State (KenPom No. 169), and have a pair of losses to Auburn (KenPom No. 142) .
The top seed in this pod is Villanova, which will be lurking in the round of 32. Villanova is not Kentucky, so that's nice.
This is no easy path to the second weekend, but if NC State can put together a couple of solid performances in a row, hey, who knows. The Wolfpack has gotten some buzz as a team that could surprise in the NCAAs, and soon enough the guys will have the chance to prove they were worth the hype.
