NC State's Sweet Sixteen opponent is a familiar foe: the Louisville Cardinals, who beat UC-Irvine and Northern Iowa to advance through the first weekend. The Wolfpack and Cardinals last met on Valentine's Day, and the Pack won that game, 74-65.
That was a turning point in State's season after losses in five of the previous six games. Cat Barber was in complete Cat Daddy mode at that time, and the rest is history. State won four of its next five to close out the regular season and help solidify an NCAA tournament bid.
That bid was tenuous for almost the entirety of February and now I'm talking about a Sweet Sixteen game. And a second game against Louisville, which is currently in the ACC. College sports, you're beautiful. You don't always make sense, but that's why you're great.
NC State has a chance to reach the Elite Eight for the first time since the 1980s.
State-Louisville is set for 7:37 p.m. ET Friday on TBS.
