Well, everybody, the dream of a loaded backcourt in 2015-16 took a pretty significant hit this afternoon. Trevor Lacey announced his intention to enter the NBA Draft, and based on the statement he released through the school, there is no indication that he merely intends to test the waters. He's gone.
"I would like to thank the coaching staff, university and fans for a wonderful experience the last two years at NC State, but I'd like to declare for the NBA Draft," Lacey said. "I had a great group of teammates the last two years and they'll always be like brothers to me. This has been the toughest decision of my life but I feel like pursuing this new journey in my basketball career is what is best for me."
It's disappointing that we won't get to see Trevor work his isolation magic in an NC State uniform anymore, but I don't think there's any question that he's making a good decision. It's similar to what we saw with Calvin Leslie and Lorenzo Brown--Brown turned 23 the year he left, while Leslie turned 22. They were on the old side. Lacey is also an old man by college hoops standards; he'll turn 24 later this year.
And he is essentially a finished product right now; there's little he could conceivably gain with another season of college basketball, and his age will only continue to work against him from a draft standpoint. Best to take his chances now, when he's coming off the best season of his career, and start cashing checks.
One day they love you they next minute they hate you lol

We still love ya, Trevor. Best of luck to you, and thanks for everything.
