Forward Kyle Washington will transfer from NC State

Kyle Washington told The Wolfpacker that he's leaving the NC State basketball program. Washington had been rumored to be on the way out for some time now, and unfortunately all of that speculation has proven true. His departure leaves the Wolfpack with a frontcourt of Lennard Freeman, Abdul-Malik Abu, and BeeJay Anya.

Washington started every game for State between Dec. 17 and Feb. 11--a span of 15 games--but saw his minutes dwindle down the stretch as Abu emerged as a more reliable player in the paint. Washington logged double-digit minutes only three times over the last 11 games, and twice didn't see the court at all.

Kyle was better than any other frontcourt player on the roster at generating offense in a hurry, but because he relied so much on long jump shots, that production was inconsistent. He could be clutch with those scoring flurries, and we may miss that a time or two next season, but ultimately his shortcomings in other areas made him the odd man out in the rotation.

That was unlikely to change with the rest of the bigs returning for next year, and so here we are, bidding farewell to the man who led the Pack in great facial expressions and no-no-no-no-oh-my-god-no-YES-okay jumpers.

Good luck at your next school, Kyle. We'll miss your energy and occasional heroics.
