Dennis Smith Jr. is on the preseason watch list for the Bob Cousy Award, which is given annually to the nation’s best point guard. DSJ is one of 20 college basketball players recognized, and one of only five freshmen. NC State is going to see several of the guys on this list in 2016-17.
Jalen Adams | Connecticut | Sophomore |
Maurice Watson Jr. | Creighton | Senior |
Jack Gibbs | Davidson | Senior |
Frank Jackson | Duke | Freshman |
Nigel Williams-Goss | Gonzaga | RS Junior |
Monte Morris | Iowa State | Senior |
Frank Mason | Kansas | Senior |
De'Aaron Fox | Kentucky | Freshman |
Melo Trimble | Maryland | Junior |
Joel Berry II | North Carolina | Junior |
Dennis Smith | North Carolina State | Freshman |
Jawun Evans | Oklahoma State | Sophomore |
Lonzo Ball | UCLA | Freshman |
Jordan McLaughlin | USC | Junior |
Jalen Brunson | Villanova | Sophomore |
London Perrantes | Virginia | Senior |
Seth Allen | Virginia Tech | RS Senior |
Markelle Fultz | Washington | Freshman |
Bronson Koenig | Wisconsin | Senior |
Edmund Sumner | Xavier | Sophomore |
NC State definitely will see Allen, Berry, Jackson and Perrantes (wait minute, who let Seth Allen in here) and could also see Creighton's Maurice Watson during the Paradise Jam.
According to the NCAA's release, a freshman has never won this award. Between DSJ, De'Aaron Fox, and Markelle Fultz, there's a decent chance that changes.
