The computers love us this year!

Joining the list of statistical projection systems high on NC State’s basketball team: ESPN’s Basketball Power Index. The BPI top ten was released on Tuesday afternoon, and checking at No. 10 is ... NC State?!

(via ESPN’s Sharon Katz)

BPI, as you can see, works a bit differently than, say, the Pomeroy Ratings, but these systems share plenty of the same fundamentals. Ditto Sports Illustrated’s relatively new system. And all three like the Wolfpack to varying degrees this season.

BPI is the highest on NC State at No. 10, while SI has NC State 18th, and KenPom has the Wolfpack 35th (they’ve moved up a spot in the Pomeroy Ratings since that post). You won’t find anybody higher on this NC State basketball team than the computers!

You can chuckle at that if you want, but I’ll take the computers this time of year over an opinion from Dick Vitale or Seth Davis or Joe Lunardi, that is for dang sure.
