The members of the NC State team that beat Houston for the national title in 1983 didn't get to visit the White House that year. WRAL was willing to fund the trip, but the NCAA decided that was a violation, which just proves that the NCAA has been awful for decades.

So Jimmy V made the trip to Washington D.C. to meet Ronald Reagan in 1983, but his team was stuck watching that from a studio at WRAL. The details of that day, which led to this one, are here.

Thurl Bailey led a campaign to get the remaining members of the '83 team to D.C., and on Monday, the culmination of that effort was a meeting with Barack Obama. The players' family members got to enjoy this trip as well, and Pam Valvano was there, too.
