NC State starts slow and finishes poorly in 64-60 loss to Northern Iowa

well that sucked

We will have to live with frustrating games, since that is the name of the game (er, sport), regardless of coaches involved. NC State’s effort was there on Thursday, at least on the defensive side, but the results were not. NC State lost to Northern Iowa, 64-60.

The shame of this one was just kind of a look-yourself-in-the-mirror situation. Why do you need to attempt 30 three-pointers against a team that doesn’t have much size? Why would you get away from Omer Yurtseven or Lennard Freeman doing work in the paint?

So many jump shots. Way too many jump shots. Especially when it was clear that that part of State’s game wasn’t working. Al Freeman was off, Sam Hunt was off—the team’s most efficient three-point shooter was Yurt!

And he played a great game, by the way. Wasn’t quite enough, but he was really good this afternoon. If he can keep that up, and also get more help, NC State is going to be a problem.

Anyway, on to Tennessee Friday afternoon.
