The NBA Draft is set for Thursday night on ESPN, and thank goodness it’s finally here, because the takes by random bros on Twitter who fancy themselves scouting experts all the sudden have hit ludicrous speed.
The randoms are somewhat torn on Dennis Smith Jr., and near as I can tell the argument against him, such as it is, is basically that he didn’t win 30 games by himself at NC State. Tough crowd, these random internet guys, lemme tell ya.
Smith is an unlikely top five selection based on the latest mock drafts from people who in fact do know what they’re talking about, but I wouldn’t completely rule out that happening, either.
2017 NBA Draft
Start time: 7 p.m. ET
TV: ESPN
Online stream: WatchESPN
A couple of teams to keep an eye on in the 6-10 range are Orlando and Dallas. The Magic’s GM recently had some kind remarks for DSJ in a radio interview, while the Mavericks look like a pretty ideal fit. Additionally, Mark Gottfried has been hanging around Mavs camp and could potentially join the coaching staff of their summer league team.
